Ion Exchange Media

Ion Exchange Media

Media that capture contaminants out of a liquid waste stream — natural zeolites for cesium and strontium, hydroxyapatite for transuranics and activated metals — so the stream can be treated and the loaded media managed as the waste form.

Fluid Tech's WTZ 100® and WTZ 200® are natural zeolites selected for their high cation exchange capacity, high surface area, and physical durability. FHA™ is a hydroxyapatite adsorbent used against transuranics, strontium and activated cobalt. They are separate products, frequently used together — all three ran on the same project at Hanford's 105-K West Fuel Storage Basin, each taking the isotopes it is selective for, and each can be specified on its own.

Ion Exchange Products

WTZ 100® is characterized by its high surface area, high cation exchange capacity, and physical durability.

Applications
  • Radioactive waste control
  • Aquaculture
  • Water filtration and purification
  • Gas adsorption

WTZ 200® is unique among natural zeolites, with light weight, extremely high surface area, and high cation exchange capacity.

Applications
  • Hazardous waste cleanup of arsenic and thallium
  • Radioactive waste control
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Air and water filtration

FHA™ (Fluid Tech Hydroxyapatite) is a carbonaceous adsorbent used as isotope-specific media in liquid radioactive waste treatment.

Applications
  • Transuranic and strontium removal
  • Activated cobalt removal
  • Liquid radwaste polishing
